Summer/Fall 2017 Internship Program

Commitment: minimum 8hrs per week
Compensation: Unpaid

The African Chamber of Commerce of the Pacific Northwest (ACCPNW) is a non-profit organization that promotes bilateral trade between the Pacific Northwest and Africa. Our office is housed in the Washington State Department of Community, Trade, and Economic Development and the chamber is funded in part by Washington State and the City of Seattle as well as our own membership base.

Interns at the Chamber will assist with the day-to-day activities of the office and the planning and execution of events that promote bilateral trade between Africa and the Pacific Northwest. These events range from trade forums, visits from African dignitaries, seminars on African trade, and networking dinners for the African Chamber of Commerce board members.

Work usually consists of contacting chamber members to inform them of upcoming events, creating schedules for events, communicating with other organizations that promote Africa in the United States, and performing other office duties. As an intern, one will have the opportunity to participate in all events and network with both residents of the Pacific Northwest interested in Africa, as well as Africans and African dignitaries.

We are recruiting for the following positions:

  • Social Media and Web Development Intern: This intern will assist with the content management and overall design for the work-in-progress ACCPNW website. They will also manage the Chamber’s day-to-day social media presence.
  • Event Planning Intern: This intern will lead the effort to plan the 19th Annual Africa Day Business Forum, our annual event which draws over 200 participants from around the world, including Congressmen, Ambassadors, and businessmen. They will also coordinate ACCPNW’s other outreach events throughout the year.
  • Research and Development Intern: This intern will undertake various research projects to aid the Chamber in its mission to promote trade between the Pacific Northwest and Sub-Saharan Africa. They may also help in the development of ACCPNW’s sister organization, African Community Empowerment.

Applicants should indicate which position they prefer on their application. As we approach our 20 year anniversary promoting trade between the U.S. and Africa, there is a great deal of exciting work to be done at the chamber.

Interns must have already completed two years at a college or university, and have an interest in Africa. Positions are available year-round; however, there is a minimum commitment of 10 weeks.
